AuthenticAs Star Gazing -Nightscape Portrait Photography Tour

Travel by 4WD Land Rover into the Dark Skies close to and within the Wakatipu Basin, Queenstown and Tahuna area, with locations chosen for the conditions on the night and your group’s interests. Access is covered by Department of Conservation permission, and tours often head into the mountains, where there may be snow underfoot in winter, or down alongside Lake Wakatipu.

With NZ Astro Tourism Academy qualified guides, the experience combines practical stargazing with clear guidance on star navigation, constellations, and the meaning and language connected to what you are seeing in the Southern Night Sky. Using a Unistellar EVscope and night binoculars, your guide selects the most interesting visible features for close-up viewing on the night.

The tour also includes professional night photography. You will be photographed under the sky, often with the galactic core as the backdrop, and receive a set of images from the experience, along with telescope images captured from the live viewing session. For guests interested in astrophotography, tuition can be arranged and you are welcome to bring your own camera and tripod.
