Cycle from Hawea to Wanaka on grade 1-2 family-friendly trails via Albert Town, with a shuttle, safety briefing and bike collection in Wanaka by 4pm.

Tour Overview

Start with a luxury shuttle from Wanaka to Hawea, where nzbiketrails will get you set up with a route overview, safety briefing, and test ride to make sure your bike is comfortable and correctly adjusted. From there, you have the rest of the day to ride back at your own pace on grade 1 to 2 family friendly trails.

The recommended route runs from Hawea alongside the Hawea River, through Albert Town, then follows the Clutha River into Wanaka. The riding is relatively easy, crossing open plateaus with mountains around you, making this a relaxed way to see the area without rushing between stops.

There is time to pause along the way if you want to explore local spots. Lake Hawea is one option near the start, and in Albert Town you can stop at Pembroke Patisserie, an award-winning bakery that is a favourite on this route. In Wanaka, you may choose to continue on to see the Wanaka Tree or stop at the Edgewater Hotel garden bar before finishing.

Your bikes are collected back in Wanaka at the original pickup location by 4pm. E-bikes are suitable for children aged 8 and over who are taller than 140cm and are confident riding with gears.

What To Expect

nzbiketrails luxury shuttle will pick you up from Wanaka and transport you to Hawea. We will provide an overview of the route, safety briefing and a test ride to ensure that your bike is comfortable for you with the right seat height. You will then have the rest of the day to explore the local area on your bike and make stops on the way back to Wanaka. Our favourite stop is the patisserie in Albert Town – an award-winning bakery. On arrival in Wanaka nzbiketrails will then pick up your bikes at the original pickup location by 4pm. Our e-bikes are suitable for Children 8 years+ who are over 140cm and are confident riders capable of using gears on a bike. We recommend young families book either the 0900hrs or 1030hrs shuttles allowing plenty of time to ride back to Wanaka.
