Half-day bike ride from Queenstown to the Gibbston Wine Region via Arrow Junction, with shuttle transfers, river gorge trails and flexible winery stops.

Tour Overview

Start with a shuttle from Queenstown to Arrow Junction, 7 km past Arrowtown, where you’ll be fitted with a bike and given a briefing before setting out. This half day ride is designed for travellers short on time, combining a manageable cycling route with flexible food and wine stops in the Gibbston Wine Region.

The trail begins with a 6 km section through the Arrow and Kawarau river gorges. Along the way, you’ll cross the Edgar Swing Bridge and bike over the Kawarau Suspension Bridge, home to the world’s first commercial bungy jump. From there, ride the Gibbston Valley Wine Trail, following around 17 km of undulating gravel trail through the valley.

You can shape the afternoon around your own pace, usually with three stops, sometimes four. Options include the cellar door at Gibbston Valley Winery, where you can also choose a tour of New Zealand’s largest wine cave, The Church Cellar Door and Cafe, or Mt Rosa’s new cellar door. There is also a local tavern serving wood fired pizza, pub food and beer, plus a gin tasting stop.

At the end of the ride, the shuttle bus collects you at a confirmed time directly from your chosen winery, making the return simple after an easygoing afternoon on the trail.
