Self-guided ride from Queenstown to Gibbston Valley via Arrow Junction, Edgar Swing Bridge and Kawarau Bridge, with winery stops and return shuttle.

Tour Overview

This self guided ride begins with a shuttle from Queenstown to Arrow Junction, 7 km beyond Arrowtown. After a bike fitting, trail map, and practical tips, you set off on a 6 km ride to the start of the Gibbston Valley Trail.

The route follows scenic trails through river gorges, crosses the Edgar Swing Bridge, and takes you over the historic Kawarau Bridge, known as the home of the world’s first commercial bungy jumping operation. It is a good place to pause and watch bungy jumpers and zip liners in action before continuing into Gibbston Valley.

From there, the day is yours to shape. Ride between wineries, a brewery, and a tavern at your own pace, with time to stop for tastings or a meal depending on how you want to spend the afternoon. The full ride is around 17 km on an undulating trail, offering a relaxed way to explore this part of Central Otago’s wine region.

Your ride finishes in Gibbston Valley at a winery of your choice. Return collection is from The Church at 4.30 pm for the shuttle back to Queenstown. Built in Wangaloa in 1894 and relocated to Gibbston in the early 2000s, The Church now serves local wines in a very different setting from its original purpose.
