Cruise from Queenstown across Lake Wakatipu to Walter Peak for a wood-fired BBQ buffet at Colonel’s Homestead and a working farm demonstration.

Tour Overview

Check in at the RealNZ Visitor Centre, 88 Beach Street, Queenstown, then board for a cruise across Lake Wakatipu to Walter Peak High Country Farm. You’ll travel on either the vintage TSS Earnslaw steamship or the Spirit of Queenstown, with lake and mountain views unfolding as you leave central Queenstown behind.

At Walter Peak, dinner is served at the Colonel’s Homestead Restaurant. The menu centres on a wood-fired BBQ buffet prepared with local ingredients, including salads, seasonal vegetables, locally sourced meats, and dessert. The restaurant looks out over Lake Whakatipu toward Queenstown’s alpine backdrop, and the setting includes landscaped grounds beside the lake.

After dinner, stay on for a farm demonstration led by specialist guides. You can watch farm dogs herd sheep and see farm animals up close, adding a practical glimpse of life on a working high country farm. If time allows, there is also the chance for a short walk through the lakeside gardens before reboarding.

The evening finishes with the return cruise across Lake Whakatipu, arriving back where you started in central Queenstown. This tour combines a lake crossing, a substantial buffet meal, and time at Walter Peak in one well-paced outing.
