Day trip from Te Anau to Doubtful Sound via Manapouri, Lake Manapouri and Wilmot Pass, with a coach transfer and a 2 hour 45 minute fiord cruise.

Tour Overview

Begin in Te Anau, where you board a luxury coach for the short 30 minute drive through rolling countryside to Manapouri. From here, the journey continues with a 50 minute catamaran cruise across Lake Manapouri, giving you time to settle in and take in the mountain scenery from the water. On board, nature guides provide informative commentary as you travel.

After crossing the lake, the route goes over Wilmot Pass, with stops along the way to experience some of Fiordland’s densest rainforest and see the alpine moss gardens. This overland section adds a different perspective before you reach the next stage of the trip.

The final part of the day is a 2 hour 45 minute cruise through Doubtful Sound. This is where the scale of the landscape becomes clear, with the cruise focusing on the dramatic scenery of the fiord. Throughout the journey, you travel by modern catamaran and coach, with each stage clearly structured from Te Anau to Manapouri, across Lake Manapouri, over Wilmot Pass, and into Doubtful Sound.

This tour combines lake travel, rainforest, alpine plant life, and fiord scenery in one well-paced Fiordland day out.
