This 30 km ride links Lake Hawea to Wanaka town on an easy riverside route that follows the Hawea River Track. After pickup from your accommodation at 9 am, 11 am, or 2 pm, there is a 15 minute drive to Lake Hawea, where the ride begins.

The track gives you wide views of Lake Hawea and the river that connects it to Lake Dunstan, with a gentle route that suits a leisurely day out. Along the way, you can also see the Hawea Whitewater Park, a free-to-use feature on the river with two different grades and a smaller wave at the top for learning. The lower wave is larger, and this is where experienced paddlers often practise kayak skills or surfing tricks. On some days, several people line up to take their turn.

This ride combines three different tracks into one journey through the Upper Clutha, creating a varied but straightforward day on the bike. A stop is included at Wanaka’s best bakery for coffee and pastries before you continue back into Wanaka town. When you finish, simply let the team know and they will arrange a safe ride home.
