Tour Overview

Start at the operator’s office, where you’ll be fitted with your bike, helmet, spray coat and life jacket before a short bus transfer to the boat ramp. After a safety briefing, head out in a small group of 11 to 13 passengers, with an interactive style that goes beyond a standard thrill ride.

The jet boat journey follows the Upper Waiau River, where clear water, cool air and open views set the scene. Along the way, the driver pauses to share the area’s history, point out trout and identify three Lord of the Rings filming locations mentioned on the tour. There is time to listen for native birds when the engine is cut, balanced with faster sections and spins on the water.

The river opens onto Lake Manapouri, where the pace shifts and the focus turns to the stillness of the lake and the mountain backdrop. You’ll then disembark into the National Park for a short guided nature walk through native flora and fauna before boarding again for the return up river.

Back at the boat ramp, the final stage is a 10 km cycle on a designated trail along the river’s edge to Te Anau town centre. The track is well formed and suited to riders with a moderate level of fitness.

Take a short bus ride to the boat ramp where you'll board the boat with ease thanks to convenient ramps. After a short safety brief it's time to hit the water! Travel down the Upper Waiau River with crisp air rushing by, crystal-clear waters below and stunning views all around. Pause along the way to learn about the area and it's rich history, have some laughs, spot trout, re-imagine Lord of the Rings from 3 film locations and listen to native birds as your driver quiets the engine. Enjoy plenty of photo opportunities plus high-speeds and spins - which are great fun for all! Emerge onto Lake Manapouri and embrace the silence while surrounded by towering mountains and a view that will leave you speechless. Disembark into the National Park for a short guided nature stroll among native flora and fauna. Jump back in the boat and head back up river for more FUN! Back at the boat ramp your bike will be waiting to travel the designated cycle trail 10km/7mi along the river's edge back to Te Anau's town centre. The trail is well-formed and just requires a moderate level of fitness.
