Private 8 to 9-hour photography tour from Queenstown through the Southern Lakes, with guidance on composition and exposure in places such as Glenorchy or Arrowtown.

Tour Overview

Spend 8 to 9 hours exploring Queenstown and the Southern Lakes on a private photography tour led by a guide who is also a landscape photographer with years of local knowledge. Designed for photography enthusiasts, the day focuses on practical guidance as much as location, with mentoring on composition, exposure, and how to work with changing conditions across the region.

Routes vary, but each option includes recognised locations with distinct character. Head west to Glenorchy, Paradise and Kinloch for waterfalls, Lake Wakatipu, Moke Lake, the Dart and Rees Rivers, and stories of gold mining, transport and farming history. Travel east through Arrowtown, the Crown Range, Gibbston Valley and Cromwell for heritage, vineyards, expansive views and the rugged Kawarau Gorge. Go north to Coronet Peak and Skippers Canyon for alpine tussock landscapes, gold mining heritage and the steep, rugged Skippers Canyon road. Another northern route takes in the Crown Range, Wanaka, Lake Wanaka, Mount Aspiring and the Southern Alps, including the highest road pass in New Zealand. To the south, Kingston offers Lake Wakatipu, the Remarkables Range, waterfalls, a historic steam train, and wild alpine tussock and rock tor country.

The weather here changes quickly, bringing different light and mood to the mountains, lakes, rivers and forests, and your guide will help you make the most of it.
