Tour Overview

Travel from Queenstown to Skippers Canyon on a half day photography tour led by an experienced, award-winning landscape photographer. With hotel pick up well before sunset and return after the best natural light has faded, the timing is built around the conditions that matter most for landscape photography.

The focus is practical and hands-on. You will use your own camera equipment while learning techniques for landscape images that you can keep using long after the tour. Along the way, your guide shares clear advice on making the most of light, composition, and the outdoor setting.

Skippers Canyon, part of Mount Aurum Recreation Reserve, is the centrepiece of the trip. This deep river gorge is tied to Wakatipu’s 1860s gold fever and is framed by glacial-carved peaks in the Queenstown mountains. The route includes dramatic viewpoints and a selection of special locations chosen for their views and photographic potential.

This is an outdoor adventure as much as a photography lesson, with time spent in the field rather than in a classroom. If you want to improve your landscape photography while visiting a place with strong natural features and local history, this tour offers a focused way to do both.

You will learn life long skills on the fine art of landscape photography from an award-winning photographer, while discovering some unforgettable locations. I will collect you from your hotel long before sunset, and return you once the ideal time for natural light photography has disappeared.

    Skippers Canyon is part of Mount Aurum Recreation Reserve and saw much of Wakatipu’s 1860s gold fever, and offers dramatic views. It's a stunning deep river gorge, set amongst the glacial-carved peaks of Queenstown's mountain.
