Three-hour guided fishing trip on Lake Wānaka for trout and salmon, with gear, instruction and views of Roys Peak and Mount Aspiring.

Tour Overview

Spend three hours on Lake Wānaka, casting for trout and salmon in a setting framed by alpine peaks. This guided fishing trip is designed for all skill levels, with expert instruction and top-quality gear provided, so you can focus on learning techniques such as trolling and downrigging while enjoying time on the water.

The boat uses an electric trolling motor, creating a quiet, steady ride that suits both fishing and the calm atmosphere of the lake. As you move across the water, you’ll have clear views of Roys Peak, Mount Aspiring, and the Twin Peaks of Treble Cone, all named landmarks that give this trip a strong sense of place.

Small group numbers, with a maximum of six people, help keep the experience focused and relaxed. Snacks and non-alcoholic drinks are included, and departures are available in the morning, afternoon, and in summer, the evening.

This is a practical, well-supported way to fish one of New Zealand’s best-known lake destinations. Whether you are new to the sport or already comfortable with a rod in hand, the combination of local guidance, quiet travel on the lake, and time spent fishing beneath Roys Peak and Mount Aspiring makes for a clear, grounded Lake Wānaka experience.

What To Expect

Meet your skipper at Wānaka Marina and board our comfortable fishing boat for a three-hour small-group fishing experience on Lake Wānaka. After a short safety briefing and introduction to the fishing gear, we’ll head out onto the lake and choose the best areas to fish based on the conditions. Target rainbow trout, brown trout and salmon using techniques such as trolling and downrigging, with all fishing equipment provided. No previous fishing experience is needed, your skipper will help beginners every step of the way, while experienced anglers are welcome to get more involved and talk fishing techniques and the local fishery. Once fishing, we use our quiet electric trolling motor to move around the lake without noise. Between bites, enjoy the alpine scenery, local snacks from the bakery and cold drinks on board. If you catch a legal fish you’d like to keep, we can clean and vacuum-pack it for you to take away. Catch-and-release is also welcome. After approximately three hours, we’ll return to Wānaka Marina.
