Small-group day trip from Queenstown to Piopiotahi Milford Sound via Te Anau, with morning tea, a Sinbad cruise, lunch, and scenic stops in Fiordland.

Tour Overview

Travel from Queenstown to Piopiotahi Milford Sound in a premium Mercedes small group vehicle, limited to 15 seats for a more personal day on the road. Your local guide collects you from your Queenstown accommodation, then follows the edge of Lake Whakatipu and Southland farmland to Te Anau.

In Te Anau, pause for a high tea style morning tea with barista-made coffee, freshly baked scones with jam and cream, seasonal fruit, and Kiwi sweet treats. From there, the route continues along Milford Sound Road through Fiordland National Park, with scenic stops that showcase forest, glacier-carved valleys, mirror lakes, braided rivers, and alpine landscapes. Key points on the journey include Eglinton Valley and the Homer Tunnel, the 1.2-kilometre passage through the Darran Mountain Range.

At Milford Sound, board the Sinbad cruise and settle into spacious seating with panoramic views. A complimentary glass of sparkling wine is served on arrival, followed by a locally sourced lunch menu with Māori cultural influences. As the vessel moves through the fiord, your onboard nature guide shares information about Piopiotahi Milford Sound while you look out for seals and dolphins among the cliffs and waterfalls. Conditions permitting, the cruise may also bring you close enough to feel the spray from Stirling Falls before the return journey to Queenstown.
