Tour Overview

See Milford Sound from the air, then explore it on foot. This tour takes a different approach, combining a scenic flight from Queenstown with around 2 hours on the ground to walk along the shores and take in key viewpoints away from the usual rush.

After takeoff, you fly over the shores of Lake Wakatipu, then continue past Glenorchy Township and the glacier fed braided rivers of the Dart Valley. The route also includes snow covered mountains, the Olivine Ice Plateau, and Fiordland National Park, with views of Mt. Tutoko and the Tutoko Glacier before heading out over the West Coast and the Tasman Sea, then descending into Milford Sound.

Once you land, there is time to explore on three short walks. The Foreshore walk is an easy flat stroll on boardwalks through beech forest beside Milford Sound, with clear views towards Mitre Peak. The Lookout track is a short uphill climb to a viewing platform framed by native bush. If operating, the track to Lady Bowen Falls begins with a boat ride from the main cruise terminal, followed by a forest walk to a viewpoint of the 162 metre falls. Lady Bowen Falls is closed June to August.

You may also have time to stop at the Milford cafe before your return flight to Queenstown.

The Lookout track - A quick uphill climb to a platform with an awesome perspective of Milford Sound framed by native bush. Milford's best-kept secret Lady Bowen Falls - Beginning from the main cruise terminal, a boat transports walkers to disembark and join the track among the lush forest, winding its way up to a spectacular viewpoint of the 162m Lady Bowen Falls. (closed JUNE - AUGUST) You should even have time after to relax in the Milford cafe before your return flight departs back to Queenstown.
