Private 4x4 Queenstown tour with a guide and vehicle for 4 hours, tailored to your interests, with routes including Skippers Canyon or Glenorchy.

Tour Overview

This private 4x4 tour gives you a flexible way to explore Queenstown with your own guide and vehicle. Over 4 hours, your route is shaped around one of four tour options, then fine-tuned on the day to match your interests. Travel in a LandCruiser Troop Carrier for up to 6 guests or a Toyota Prado for up to 4, reserved exclusively for your group.

Whakatipu Highlights focuses on big basin views, alpine backdrops, and classic Queenstown lookout stops, with the option to include Arrowtown or Moke Lake. Depending on your interests, the route can also include Lord of the Rings filming locations such as the Ford of Bruinen river scene or the Gladden Fields site.

Skippers Canyon heads into Queenstown’s gold-rush backcountry, where the drive itself is a major part of the experience. Expect rugged canyon scenery, narrow rock cuttings at Hell’s and Heaven’s Gates, Skippers Bridge, and Shotover River viewpoints, with gold-mining history and relics seen along the corridor.

The Māori Mythology & Local Legends option centres on story-led viewpoints around Whakatipu, with a focus on mythology, whakapapa, and local history.

Glenorchy & Paradise follows the lake road north for wide valley views, Dart River scenery, and stops that may include Paradise, the beech forest used as Lothlorien, Isengard filming locations, and views towards Mount Earnslaw.
