Three-hour small-group fishing trip on Lake Wakatipu with a local skipper, targeting trout and salmon with views of The Remarkables.

Tour Overview

Spend three hours on Lake Wakatipu with a local skipper, targeting trout and salmon while taking in the mountain backdrop that defines Queenstown. This small group trip, with up to six people on board, keeps the experience personal and gives you time to settle into the rhythm of fishing on the lake.

You’ll fish using downriggers and other proven techniques, with guidance suited to both first-timers and more experienced fishers. The boat is fitted with an electric trolling motor, which keeps the ride quiet and smooth as you move across the water. That quieter approach also helps minimise disturbance while you fish.

Throughout the trip, the views stay front and centre. Lake Wakatipu is framed by The Remarkables, Cecil Peak, and Walter Peak, giving the outing a strong sense of place from start to finish. Morning, afternoon, and evening departures are available during summer, making it easier to fit the trip into your plans.

Top-quality fishing gear is provided, along with snacks and non-alcoholic drinks, so there is little to organise before you step aboard. If you want a focused fishing trip on Lake Wakatipu with local guidance and clear views of Queenstown’s surrounding peaks, this tour keeps things straightforward and well-paced.

What To Expect

Meet your skipper at Frankton Marina and board our comfortable fishing boat for a three-hour small-group fishing experience on Lake Wakatipu. After a short safety briefing and introduction to the fishing gear, we’ll head out onto the lake and choose the best areas to fish based on the conditions. Target rainbow trout, brown trout and salmon using techniques such as trolling and downrigging, with all fishing equipment provided. No previous fishing experience is needed, your skipper will help beginners every step of the way, while experienced anglers are welcome to get more involved and talk fishing techniques and the local fishery. Once fishing, we use our fully electric trolling motor, meaning no engine noise while we fish. Between bites, enjoy the spectacular Lake Wakatipu scenery, surrounding mountains, locally sourced treats and cold drinks on board. If you catch a legal fish you’d like to keep, we can clean and vacuum-pack it for you to take away. Catch-and-release is also welcome. After approximately three hours, we’ll return to Frankton Marina.
