Small group guided one-way tour from Queenstown to Aoraki/Mt Cook Village via Kawarau Gorge, Lindis Pass and Lake Pukaki, with photo stops en route.

Tour Overview

Travel from Queenstown to Aoraki/Mt Cook Village on a small group, fully guided one way tour that turns the journey into part of the experience. Leaving Queenstown, your guide sets the scene for the day while pointing out local highlights as you head into the Kawarau Gorge.

The route follows the gorge past the Kawarau Suspension Bridge and on to Roaring Meg Lookout, where time and light permitting there may be a stop. From there, continue through Cromwell, a fruit and wine growing region, crossing Lake Dunstan and following the lake toward Lindis Pass. At the top lookout on Lindis Pass, there is a stop to take in the high country views across the valleys.

The drive then continues through the Mackenzie district, where Merino sheep are often seen, before a break in Omarama. Turning west, the landscape changes again as you enter Aoraki National Park and Lake Pukaki comes into view, with Aoraki/Mt Cook and the Southern Alps forming the backdrop. This is one of the key photo stops on the trip, and your guide will also point out nearby Lord of the Rings filming locations.

You will be dropped off at Aoraki/Mt Cook Village at the end of the tour. Please note, the Hooker Valley Track is currently closed beyond Müller Lookout while a bridge is being replaced, with full reopening expected in Autumn 2026.
