Wanaka 4x4 Explorer The Ultimate Lake and Mountain Adventure

Meet on the jetty at Wanaka Marina on Lakeside Road, then set out on a four hour boat and 4x4 trip that combines lake travel with high country views above Lake Wanaka.

The tour begins with a 20 minute boat ride across Lake Wanaka toward the head of Stevenson’s Arm. Along the way, you pass Stevenson’s Island and travel through a landscape shaped by glacier carved mountains, steep walls, and alpine peaks. The landing point is at the foot of Mt Burke, where you transfer to a 4x4 with your guide.

From there, the route climbs above the lake and the view opens wider with every section of the track. At the top, Lake Wanaka spreads out below, with remote islands visible on the water and the alpine peaks of Mount Aspiring National Park beyond. This part of the trip is focused on the contrast between the lake and the land, and on reaching a quiet, less visited viewpoint.
