Your day can begin at Lake Hayes, where still water and tussock-covered hills create a calm start before continuing to Arrowtown. Here, you can wander the preserved gold rush village, browse the town centre, or visit the Arrowtown Chinese Early Settlement to learn about the miners who once lived and worked here. From Arrowtown, the route climbs the Crown Range, New Zealand’s highest main road, with wide views from the Crown Range Lookout.
